Burnt sienna stands poised, arms outstretched in supplication to the heavens. New life is already sprouting exuberantly from her womb. Her foundation is a dinosaur egg that contains a shining world. This work is the first of a series I am creating in response to the momentous times we are living through. A wellspring of hope rose up in me as I watched millions of people worldwide come out during a life threatening pandemic to protest the horrific death of George Floyd. People of all ages, all races, and many other nations (without our shared history of enslavement) were moved to put themselves in danger to show their support. The passion of these protests toppled or removed many statues that honoured a toxic legacy. That begs the question, what do we exalt now?
